Work Injuries and L&I (Workers’ Compensation)
You may qualify for L&I benefits—also known as workers’ compensation—if you:
-
Were injured while on the job
-
Developed an illness or injury as a result of your work
-
Were hurt or became sick while traveling for work
Keep in mind, L&I benefits do not apply if the injury occurred while you were under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or if your condition stems from poor lifestyle choices.
What Benefits Are Available Through L&I?
If you’ve been injured at work, you may be eligible for a range of benefits through L&I. Depending on your claim, these may include:
-
Replacement of lost wages
-
Coverage for prescription medications
-
Reimbursement for travel to medical appointments
-
Compensation for damaged or lost personal property
-
Pension benefits for permanent total disability
-
Pension benefits for permanent partial disability
-
Payment of medical bills
The benefits you receive will depend on the details and outcome of your claim—some injured workers qualify for all of these, while others may only qualify for a few.
How Do I Get L&I Benefits?
To qualify for L&I (workers’ compensation) benefits, you’ll need to be evaluated by an approved healthcare provider—such as Dr. O'Brien at Arlington Chiropractic & Wellness
During your visit, we’ll talk with you about:
-
What symptoms you’re experiencing
-
When your symptoms began
-
How your injury or illness occurred
-
Any previous conditions that may affect your recovery
-
How your injury impacts your ability to work
-
How your daily life has been affected
After discussing your health history, we’ll perform a physical exam to better understand the extent of your injury or illness. If your condition qualifies for L&I, our team will:
-
Confirm that your injury is work-related
-
Determine when you can safely return to work
-
Assist you in completing and filing your claim
-
Recommend the right treatment plan to help you recover
In some cases—such as when your employer is self-insured—you and your provider will also need to complete a Provider’s Initial Report (PIR) form.
At Arlington Chiropractic & Wellness, we guide you through every step of the process so you don’t have to navigate L&I on your own.
